Job Description

Job Title: Part-Time Professor of Science and Engineering

Job Summary:

Durham College is seeking a highly motivated and experienced professional to join our faculty as a part-time professor of science and engineering. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching lab sections in spectroscopy and chromatography, as well as contributing to the development of curriculum and assessment methodologies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver high-quality educational content in spectroscopy and chromatography, utilizing principles of adult education and current technologies to support student learning.
  • Assess student learning and provide constructive feedback, ensuring that course and program curriculum is current and relevant.
  • Collaborate with the program team and internal stakeholders to develop and implement curriculum, assessments, and educational technologies.
  • Participate in industry-led or community-based applied research, contributing to the development of new knowledge and skills in the field of science and engineering.
  • Engage with students, faculty, and external stakeholders to promote a positive learning environment and foster a culture of lifelong learning.

Requirements:

  • A relevant degree combined with industry credentials (Master's is an asset).
  • A minimum of five years of recent (within the past three years) and relevant work experience in the field of science and engineering.
  • Teaching experience at the post-secondary level, with a demonstrated understanding and application of Universal Design for Learning and current assessment methodologies.
  • Experience participating in industry-led or community-based applied research is an asset.
  • Demonstrated use of current technologies to support student learning and the management of grades.
  • Proven track-record of life-long learning and a commitment to staying current in the field of science and engineering.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, including students, faculty, support staff, administrators, and community stakeholders.
  • Understanding of the Ontario college system and its requirements.
