Property Loss Claims Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Claims Consultant to join our Property Large Loss team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for handling complex claims, including commercial property, energy, equipment breakdown, environmental liability, and specialty claims. Your expertise will be essential in managing the settlement of claims, civil liability, and property damage, as well as analyzing and evaluating claims, liability, and provisions.
Key Responsibilities- Manage and investigate large and complex commercial property claims with exposures over $1M or involving specialized kinds of loss within Canada and internationally.
- Engage and manage internal and external counsel, consultants, adjusters, accountants, and engineers to confirm coverage, determine liability, and assess damages.
- Mentor and guide regional file handlers to ensure consistent and effective claims handling and support long-term succession planning.
- Train colleagues on complex claims handling and provide technical advice.
- Work with Underwriting, Loss Prevention, and other stakeholders to identify potential risks, hazards, and trends, sharing feedback and lessons learned.
- Provide excellent customer service to brokers, customers, and colleagues.
- Deliver and exceed on key performance indicators related to loss development and loss adjustment expenses, claims leakage control, and expense management.
- A critical thinker with intellectual curiosity and the ability to approach complex problems in time-sensitive situations.
- A skilled communicator with the ability to foster favorable business relationships and provide clear guidance to clients.
- A problem-solver with the ability to gather information, evaluate situations, and negotiate the next steps toward a solution.

- A planner with the ability to effectively organize and establish an effective strategy.
- A strong collaborator with a passion for mentoring and coaching others.
- 10+ years of experience with direct handling of large and complex commercial property claims.
- Appropriate knowledge of all relevant regulatory and legal requirements applicable to the position.
- Undergraduate degree or CIP designation (asset).
- Flexible to travel as needed.
