Nursing Practicum Placement Specialist

Job Summary:

The Practicum Sites Coordinator is a key member of the Nursing Practicum Coordination Office team at York University. This role plays a vital part in supporting the development, coordination, and maintenance of student practicum placements for all undergraduate and graduate nursing programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the development and implementation of practicum placement strategies to meet the needs of nursing students.
  • Coordinate and maintain relationships with healthcare partners and stakeholders to secure practicum placements.
  • Collaborate with faculty members to ensure alignment between practicum placements and curriculum goals.
  • Provide guidance and support to nursing students during their practicum experiences.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of practicum placements and make recommendations for improvement.

Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree in Nursing.
  • Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) or Registered Nurse (RN) with current registration with The College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • 2 years of leadership experience in nursing, preferably in a clinical or educational setting.
  • Experience using databases and analyzing data to inform decision-making.
  • Community-based and acute care experience is an asset.
  • Experience working with nursing students in clinical practicum settings is an asset.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Knowledge of the Primary Health Care framework.
  • Familiarity with e-documentation systems is an asset.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications, including Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Effective planning, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise tact and diplomacy.
  • Ability to work efficiently as a team member to achieve unit and organizational goals.

Compensation and Benefits:

York University offers a competitive compensation package, including a salary grid with 6 or 8 steps, depending on job grade, and a lump sum Performance-Based Recognition Award. Employees may also be eligible for additional benefits and perks.
