About the Role

MILA is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Advisor, Social Impact Project Development to join our team. As a key member of our organization, you will play a crucial role in executing our mission to be a global hub of scientific advances that inspires innovation and the rise of artificial intelligence (AI) for the benefit of all.

Key Responsibilities

As a Senior Advisor, Social Impact Project Development, you will be responsible for:

  • Developing and implementing effective partnership and funding strategies to support the development of MILA's social impact projects;
  • Engaging with key internal stakeholders, including academic community (professors and students) and MILA's applied project team, to identify needs and develop a social impact projects portfolio;
  • Identifying and analyzing funding opportunities and trends in the sponsorship/philanthropic landscape, nationally and beyond;
  • Creating innovative approaches to find new sources of funding and partnerships to support MILA's social impact projects;
  • Conducting comprehensive research on potential funding sources and developing targeted pitches;
  • Representing MILA at conferences and fundraising events to promote funding/partnership opportunities and identify potential contributors;
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with donors through regular communication and personalized engagement;
  • Developing and implementing recognition activities/tools to acknowledge contributions and demonstrate impact;
  • Staying informed about advancements in AI and related fields to effectively communicate the impact of MILA to potential donors;
  • Researching and identifying grant and sponsorship opportunities that align with MILA's mission;
  • Writing and submitting compelling grant/sponsorship proposals to secure funding for economic and social impact projects;
  • Managing grant/sponsorship reporting requirements and maintaining relationships with grantors and sponsors.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A minimum of 6 years of experience in partnerships, fundraising, or a related role, preferably within the non-profit sector;
  • A bachelor or masters degree in Business Administration, Nonprofit Management, Communications, or relevant disciplines;
  • Previous experience in AI or technology fundraising through philanthropy, individual donors, foundations, family offices, corporate sponsors is a plus;
  • CFRE certification is an asset;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Outstanding relationship builder with an ability to create win-win collaboration;
  • Ability to write compelling grant/sponsor proposals and fundraising/partnerships materials;
  • High level of initiative, responsiveness, creativity, engagement and negotiating skills;
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and with diverse stakeholders;
  • Strong leadership qualities with a proactive and results-oriented approach;
  • Be bilingual, as you will be interacting with some of our English-speaking partners, stakeholders and members of the academic community.
