Emerging Research Leader in Community-based Kinesiology and Physical Literacy

Vancouver Island University (VIU) is seeking a visionary leader to fill the position of Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in Community-based Kinesiology and Physical Literacy.
This esteemed role requires an exceptional, emerging researcher who has demonstrated particular research creativity and the potential to achieve international recognition in their field within the next five to ten years.
The successful candidate will explore the affective, physical, cognitive, and behavioural elements of physical literacy across the lifespan, and how community, sport and culture intersect to promote or stifle health and wellness. The individual will be expected to develop an innovative research program that incorporates community outreach using sociocultural and physical literacy research methodologies to promote physical activity, exercise, and wellness in the Mid-Island region.
Key responsibilities include developing and leading research projects, mentoring research trainees at all levels, and contributing to academic programs through teaching undergraduate or graduate courses. The ideal candidate will possess a strong track record of peer-reviewed publications and external research funding, as well as leadership skills and collaborative research experience.
To be considered for this prestigious position, applicants must have earned their highest degree within the past 10 years, with a minimum of 5 years of postdoctoral experience. The appointment is renewable once, after which the chairholder will become a full-time faculty member.
