Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is a world-class innovator in medical care, research and teaching, delivering service to more than one million BC residents. We are currently seeking an experienced Strategic Communication Leader to join our team.

About the Role

This role is accountable for developing, coordinating and delivering strategic communication campaigns, projects and change initiatives on behalf of the VCH People team. The successful candidate will provide leadership and consultation in all aspects of communications to People leadership to advance organizational strategic priorities while strengthening the department's and organization's reputation with both internal and external partners.

In this role, you will:

  • Provide strategic communications consultation, planning and evaluation for senior leaders to proactively achieve strategic priorities, manage reputation risks, support change and transition initiatives, and positively impact the employee experience.
  • Plan, coordinate and execute effective communications, change management and engagement strategies and techniques designed to meet needs of target audiences.
  • Liaise with partners and experts at all levels of the organization to develop a broad understanding of important issues, challenges and strategic directions being undertaken, provide advice and develop related communications.
  • Apply solid knowledge of best practice business methods to help advance corporate culture, executive communications, executive engagement with frontline staff, corporate business practices and online and in-person communications.
  • Use advanced skills and experience in journalistic and business writing, as well as the skill to develop compelling written and multimedia presentations to target and engage a variety of external and internal stakeholders.
About You

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, or Journalism supplemented with industry-recognized accreditation.
  • A minimum of seven (7) to ten (10) years' recent related experience including development, implementation and evaluation of operational and strategic communications or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Broad knowledge of human resources practices and project and change management experience is a significant asset.
  • Uses an understanding of the many diverse audiences and unique challenges faced by the department and health authority to communicate across diverse sites and audiences.
  • Applies facilitation and consensus building skills to develop communication strategies and messaging involving a variety of stakeholders.
