Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled Database Systems Administrator to join our team at Manitoba Hydro. As a key member of our IT department, you will be responsible for the design, planning, implementation, and tuning of our corporate database management systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the administration of our database environments, ensuring they are secure, maintained at maximum availability, and optimized for performance.
- Provide expertise for the development and implementation of corporate databases, working closely with various developer groups.
- Collaborate with the DBA team on database-related projects, ensuring timely and efficient delivery.
- Establish, review, and maintain standards for corporate database environments, ensuring database designs adhere to those standards.
- Design and maintain backup, restart, and recovery procedures for corporate databases.
- Monitor and tune corporate databases for optimal response and performance.
- Provide ongoing support and troubleshooting for corporate database environments.
- Stay up-to-date with new developments in database and related technology, including database management software, tools, and techniques.
- Ensure adherence to Change Management procedures in all aspects of database support.
- Maintain effective communication with other corporate technical groups.
- Be available for on-call support outside regular working hours and be prepared to work overtime when required.
Qualifications:
- A four-year degree in Computer Science from a recognized university, with a minimum of two years of directly applicable experience in a DBA support role for major operational Oracle and/or SQL Server database systems.
- OR a two-year diploma in Computer or Information Technology from a recognized institute, with a minimum of four years of directly applicable experience in a DBA support role for major operational Oracle and/or SQL Server database systems.
- Knowledgeable in the implementation, maintenance, and administration of databases.
- Proficient in programming in database environments.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Windows and UNIX/Linux operating systems.
- Knowledge of Windows PowerShell and/or UNIX shell scripting.
- Ability to write technical material in a clear and concise manner.
- Demonstrated ability to produce professional business reports and documentation.
- Demonstrated ability to acquire technical knowledge and apply it correctly in IT solutions.
- Experience in participating in various types and sizes of IT projects.
- Demonstrated ability to prepare and deliver presentations.
- Self-motivated with mature judgment and the ability to make and implement sound decisions.
- Demonstrated commitment to staying current with current technology.
