Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Database Administrator to join our team at Manitoba Hydro. As a key member of our IT department, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining our corporate database management systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Senior Database Administrators to ensure the security, availability, and performance of our database environments.
  • Provide expertise in the development and implementation of corporate databases, ensuring they meet our objectives for security, availability, and performance.
  • Work as a team member on database-related projects, contributing to the design, implementation, and maintenance of our database systems.
  • Establish, review, and maintain standards for corporate database environments, ensuring database designs adhere to those standards.
  • Design and maintain backup, restart, and recovery procedures for corporate databases, ensuring business continuity.
  • Monitor and tune corporate databases for optimum response and performance, ensuring they meet our business needs.
  • Provide on-going support and troubleshooting for corporate database environments, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum availability.
  • Stay up-to-date with new developments in database and related technology, including database management software, tools, and techniques.
  • Ensure adherence to Change Management procedures in all aspects of database support, ensuring smooth transitions and minimal disruption to business operations.
  • Maintain a high level of communication with other corporate technical groups, ensuring seamless collaboration and knowledge sharing.
  • Be prepared to work on-call to provide system support outside of regular working hours, ensuring business continuity.

Qualifications:

  • A four-year degree in Computer Science from a recognized university, with a minimum of two years of directly applicable experience in a DBA support role of major operational Oracle and/or SQL Server database systems.
  • A two-year diploma in Computer or Information Technology from a recognized institute, with a minimum of four years of directly applicable experience in a DBA support role of major operational Oracle and/or SQL Server database systems.
  • Knowledgeable in the implementation, maintenance, and administration of databases, with a strong understanding of database management systems.
  • Proficient in programming in database environments, with a working knowledge of Microsoft Windows and UNIX/Linux operating systems.
  • Experience with Windows PowerShell and/or UNIX shell scripting, with the ability to write technical material in a clear and concise manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce professional business reports and documentation, with a strong analytical and self-motivating nature.
  • Ability to acquire technical knowledge and apply it correctly in Information Technology solutions, with a demonstrated commitment to keeping up-to-date with current technology.
