Rutgers University seeks a skilled Data Engineer (Biomedical & Clinical Informatics) to join its Office of Advanced Research Computing (OARC) team.

This position supports the university's biomedical research community and other disciplines in their research computing and data-related endeavors.

The successful candidate will partner with researchers and biomedical informatics specialists to manage and analyze data generated in molecular and cellular biology, genomics, and biomedicine.

Key duties include:

  • Developing new biomedical and clinical informatics research models and supporting them through potential creation of a core facility or center of excellence.
  • Maintaining and developing data pipelines to facilitate smooth data flow and collection from various sources for comprehensive analysis.
  • Providing education, outreach, and training to the university community on advanced computing topics.
  • Optimizing data systems for performance to ensure efficient storage, retrieval, and staging of data for analysis and reporting purposes.
  • Collaborating closely with Enterprise Infrastructure teams to align data engineering efforts with broader infrastructure strategies and capabilities.

To qualify, applicants must have a Master's degree and at least six years' experience supporting computationally intensive and/or data-intensive research projects.

Strong communication skills, experience with data pipeline building, optimization, and system architecture in healthcare or clinical research environments are essential.

Proficiency in programming languages and database technologies is also required. A Ph.D. in a related field is preferred, along with knowledge of electronic medical records systems and cloud-based data technologies.
