About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Pursuits team at Plan Group. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in supporting and leading the integrated pursuits process with a mechanical focus.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support and lead specific Alternate Financing & Procurement (AFP) Integrated Pursuits with a mechanical focus, working closely with multi-discipline groups in both estimation and operations.
  • Read and clearly understand issued Statements of Requirements, review and interpret job specifications and drawings, and follow through with the estimating process to develop and assist in competitive pricing.
  • Effectively communicate with stakeholders to gather information, clarify specifications, and wording, and in meetings and presentations with clients and partners.
  • Work with design teams to ensure the design meets the prescription, is focused on an efficient design with cost control at the forefront, and meets key deadlines.
  • Work in conjunction with consultants to complete system layouts to assist with the estimating process.
  • Assist in producing material and labour take-off through estimating software to develop accurate quotations.
  • Coordinate with sub-contractors and suppliers to obtain pricing to include within the final quotation provided to the client.
  • Coordinate system installation requirements with other design disciplines where required.
  • Assist in researching new systems, resources, analytical processes, procedures, and working practices to identify and implement changes to increase efficiency, productivity, and overall profitability, and remain up to date with current techniques, codes, and standards.
  • Participate in closing the bid, including bid review meetings.
  • Participate in handover meetings with the Project Management team after award.

Requirements

  • Minimum five (5) years of Engineering experience within the Mechanical Consultant or Construction industry focused on mechanical building systems (i.e. HVAC, Hydronic, Plumbing, Refrigeration, Fire Protection).
  • Experience in ICI Design Build / P3 project delivery is strongly preferred. Building projects within the healthcare, government, office, or hospitality sectors are an asset.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of all relevant building codes and standards (ie. ASHRAE, OBC, NBC, NFPA, CSA).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with Accubid Pro and/or Enterprise is a definite asset.
  • Ability to travel, including attending meetings at Architects and Consultants.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and NMS specifications is an asset.
  • Professional Engineer, Licensed in the Province of Ontario or Ingénieur, Licensed in the Province of Québec, is considered an asset.
