Job Overview

The Youth Care Specialist role at WJS Canada is a rewarding opportunity to make a positive impact in the lives of youth. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in supporting the development and well-being of young individuals.

Salary: $45,000 - $55,000 per year

Job Description

In this position, you will work closely with youth to develop and achieve personal goals, teach life skills such as communication, emotional well-being, and problem-solving, and supervise activities that promote social, emotional, and physical development.

You will also be responsible for ensuring the basic needs of individuals are met, including personal care, life skills, and social/occupational skills. Daily household tasks, driving children/youth to appointments and activities, planning culturally appropriate programs, and contributing to individual service plans will be part of your duties.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist and support youth in developing and achieving personal goals
  • Teach and encourage age-appropriate life skills
  • Supervise and participate in programming and activities
  • Ensure basic needs are met
  • Daily household tasks and driving responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver culturally appropriate programs
  • Contribute to individual service plans
Required Skills and Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • Certificate in Human Services or equivalent experience
  • 1-3 years of experience in group homes and/or supported independent living
  • Current National Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Children's Services Intervention Record Check
  • Standard First Aid and CPR Level C
  • Suicide Intervention, Self-Harm Intervention, Trauma Informed Care, and Medication Administration training
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training
  • Indigenous Awareness and Cultural Diversity training
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license with minimum 3 years driving experience
  • Current Alberta Driver's Abstract
  • Personal vehicle insurance (2 million in third-party liability)
