Medical Laboratory Technologist I, Multi Functional Lab Shift Worker, Surrey Memorial Hospital

We are seeking a Medical Laboratory Technologist I to join our team at Surrey Memorial Hospital. As a Medical Laboratory Technologist I, you will be responsible for performing laboratory procedures and analyzing results according to established policies. You will also be responsible for preparing solutions, reagents, standards, and controls for use in analysis, and communicating test results to the appropriate parties.
Key Responsibilities
• Obtain laboratory samples from patients as required.
• Perform laboratory procedures and analyze results according to established policies.
• Prepare solutions, reagents, standards, and controls for use in analysis.
• Communicate test results to the appropriate parties.
• Participate in departmental training and orientation programs by demonstrating established laboratory procedures to new employees and students.
• Assist with information management, such as workload statistics, through methods such as gathering information, completing analysis, and recording information.
• Maintain inventory of supplies by methods such as identifying depleting stock, notifying applicable personnel, and/or completing requisitions and forwarding for approval and ordering.
• Maintain a clean and safe work area according to established policies and procedures.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
• Certification with the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS).
• One year recent related experience in the designated discipline within the last six years, and/or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Demonstrated recent working knowledge of the assigned section or sections.
• Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory procedures and technical competence to perform tests used in the assigned section of the laboratory, including quality control and safety.
• Basic awareness of research process.
• Demonstrates interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
• Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize workload.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaboration with others.
• Demonstrated ability to work under pressure in a constantly changing environment.
• Basic knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in client care using point of care instrumentation.
• Demonstrated ability to operate related equipment and software, including techniques appropriate to the designated area of the laboratory.
• Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
• Commitment to develop knowledge and understanding of legislative obligations and provincial commitments found in the foundational documents, including Truth & Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), Reclaiming Power and Place Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls Calls for Justice (2019), the Declaration Act Action Plan, and Remembering Keegan: A First Nations Case Study.
