About the Role:

GFL Environmental is seeking a skilled Laborer to join our team at our Unionized location in Sault Ste. Marie. As a Laborer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform yard clean-up and maintenance tasks to maintain a safe and organized work environment.
  • Fuel and maintain company vehicles and equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Operate various types of equipment, including water trucks, pickup trucks, sweepers, and mowers, to support facility operations.
  • Assist with general office maintenance and repairs, including painting and janitorial work.
  • Direct traffic at the site as needed to ensure a safe and efficient work environment.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is desired, but not required.
  • Must be able to meet relevant criteria for safety-sensitive functions according to Company standards.

Physical and Mental Demands:

  • Must be able to stand, walk, bend, reach, and lift in an outdoor environment for up to 90% of the time.
  • Must be able to use hands and fingers, kneel, crawl, talk, hear, climb, and balance.
  • Visual requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to manually lift/move up to 65 pounds regularly and manually push/move up to 100 pounds with assistance from another employee.

Working Conditions:

  • Frequently exposed to loud noise, humidity, rainy/stormy weather conditions, extreme hot and cold temperatures, moving mechanical parts, vibrations, toxic and caustic chemicals, fumes, and airborne particles.
  • Work in an outdoor environment up to 100% of the time.
  • Occasionally work in high precarious places.
  • Work in motor vehicle traffic conditions constantly.
  • Work environment is normally loud.
