About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mechanical Maintenance Lead Hand to join our team at the City of Calgary. As a key member of our Building Operations team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain and repair building components, including HVAC, boilers, and data centre cooling equipment.
  • Monitor and respond to Building Management System (BMS) alarms daily and escalate any further issues.
  • Assist the Leader, Building Operations in determining tasks to be performed by Journeyman Refrigeration Mechanic(s) and contractors.
  • Coordinate and oversee work with contractors to provide technical expertise and acceptance.
  • Obtain quotes for jobs and provide expertise to the Leader in reviewing and awarding contracts and Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
  • Ensure that contractors are following safety procedures and complete work activities on schedule.
  • Perform administrative tasks, including attending meetings, participating on committees, and ensuring Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) are administered and used properly.
Requirements
  • A completed 1-year diploma or certificate in a related Journeyman Red Seal Trade Certificate in a Mechanical trade, such as Plumbing, HVAC, or similar field recognized by Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training.
  • A minimum of 4 years of progressive building maintenance experience.
  • Alberta Boilers Safety Association (ABSA) 5th Class Power Engineering Certificate or inter-provincial equivalent is required.
  • Success in this position requires coaching and development, communication, efficiency and thoroughness, planning and prioritizing/visionary, relationship building, self-confidence, and service orientation.
