About the Opportunity

Nova Scotia Health is seeking a Respiratory Therapist to join our team in the Central Zone. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing spirometry services to sites within the zone, as well as supporting COPD education in a virtual format.

The ideal candidate will have a graduate degree in Respiratory Therapy, be licensed with the Nova Scotia College of Respiratory Therapists, and have a minimum of two years' experience in the field. They will also have completed the Canadian Board of Respiratory Care Exams and hold current certification in BCLS.

The Respiratory Therapist will work under the direction of the Provincial Program Coordinator and Medical Director of the INSPIRED COPD Outreach Program. They will be responsible for prioritizing, problem-solving, and working under patient caseload time limitations.

The successful candidate will be able to work flexibly from an office, home, or community setting to provide both in-person and virtual care. They will also have access to reliable transportation for regular travel to clinical visits.

About You
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Respiratory Therapy and currently licensed with the Nova Scotia College of Respiratory Therapists required
  • A minimum of two years' experience in Respiratory Therapy is required
  • Successful completion of the Canadian Board of Respiratory Care Exams required
  • Current certification in BCLS is required
  • Proof of completion of an approved COPD Educators program (CRE) or equivalent preferred; or willingness to complete after hiring
  • Clinical experience in the relevant practice area preferred (i.e., Respiratory clinic, community-based care, chronic disease management, asthma/COPD education
  • Experience conducting spirometry and/or pulmonary function testing preferred
  • Ability to prioritize, problem solve and work under patient caseload time limitations
  • Willingness to adapt to change as program evolves
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills; must be an effective team player
  • Computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, videoconferencing)
  • Experience with virtual care is an asset; must be willing to integrate virtual care into practice
  • Able to work flexibly from an office, home or community setting to provide both in-person and virtual care
  • Access to reliable transportation, as regular travel is required for clinical visits
  • Willing to travel within program catchment area with occasional travel beyond catchment, for training or meeting purposes
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
