Job Title: ESL Instructor

We are seeking a qualified ESL Instructor to join our team at the Halton District School Board.

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) courses to adult learners using the Canadian Language Benchmarks and the associated Curriculum Guidelines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and deliver ESL classes in a LINC/ESL program based on the PBLA (Portfolio Based Language Assessment) guidelines.
  • Conduct classes in a respectful and engaging manner, which fosters self-directed learning leading to the achievement of personal goals.
  • Assess learners' language gains and progress according to the Canadian Language Benchmarks using Portfolio Based Language Assessment (PBLA) protocols.
  • Develop and deliver sector-specific language training, as required.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to ensure a cohesive and effective ESL program.

Requirements:

  • OCELT designation
  • Minimum 2 years of teaching experience in an adult second language learning environment
  • Strong understanding of and experience in using the Canadian Language Benchmarks and the associated Curriculum Guidelines
  • Experience providing instruction using a variety of online delivery tools and software
  • Excellent English communication and interpersonal skills
