Job Overview

Selkirk Mental Health Centre (SMHC) is seeking a skilled Security Officer to provide safety and security for staff, patients, families, and visitors. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining a secure environment, responding to incidents, and interacting with employees, patients, and the public.

Responsibilities
  • Provide security services on a rotational basis to augment treatment services at SMHC.
  • Respond to incidents, including but not limited to, patient disturbances, medical emergencies, and facility security breaches.
  • Maintain a visible presence throughout the facility to deter criminal activity and promote a safe environment.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals and other support staff to ensure effective communication and seamless service delivery.
Requirements
  • Prior security experience is preferred.
  • Experience providing security services dealing with difficult behaviours is required.
  • Diploma from a recognized education facility for Security Officer Training or equivalent combination of law enforcement/military background is essential.
  • Valid Manitoba Security Guard License and/or any future license mandated by Manitoba Justice is mandatory.
  • Certification through the Canadian General Standards Board and/or Manitoba Security Guard Training Standard is required.
  • Clear Adult Abuse Registry Check is necessary.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are required.
  • Excellent interpersonal and team building skills are essential.
Salary and Benefits

The estimated salary for this position is $60,000-$80,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience. Shared Health offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health and dental insurance, pension plan, and paid time off.
