Heavy Equipment Service Technician

Brandt is currently seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Technician to join our team at the Mississauga Construction & Forestry location. As a Heavy Equipment Technician, you will be responsible for performing diagnostics, service maintenance, and repairs on customer and dealer-owned equipment. Your primary goal will be to resolve customer issues in a timely and efficient manner.
Main Responsibilities- Financial Performance
- Work within budgets and approvals provided by the Service Manager.
- Maintain a high level of productivity, efficiency, and gross margin.
- Ensure a quality of work metric of 98% (percentage of work completed right the first time).
- Accurately record all work done for customer and warranty records.
- Stay up-to-date with current product knowledge of equipment specific to the industry/branch location.
- Keep a clean work area and perform work in a neat and orderly manner.
- Familiarize yourself with and adhere to all safety rules and regulations when performing work assignments.
- Ensure knowledge and compliance of proper procedure for disposal of hazardous waste material.
- Work within the guidelines set by directors and managers.
- Perform all service tasks assigned by the Material Handling Service Manager or the Material Handling Service Department Foreman.
- Participate in Service Training programs required for the development of skills and knowledge, including industry-specific technologies.
- Maintain and care for department tools, equipment, and vehicles.
- Mentor and oversee apprentices.
- Perform basic/complex power equipment diagnostics to determine repair needs.
- Diagnose and repair all related systems (disassembly, assembly, and repair).
- Conduct customer, manufacturer, or government inspections on equipment.
- Perform preventative maintenance on equipment (such as forklifts, stackers, electric carts, electric tow trucks, transporters).
- Utilize drill presses, grinders, air compressors, and common hand/power tools to perform preventative maintenance and repairs on material handling equipment.
- Prepare all reports and forms required in conjunction with job assignments (Work Order submitted immediately at completion of job).
- Skills
- Outstanding knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic systems, and propane systems.
- Demonstrated diagnostic skills to understand mechanical and electrical systems of battery and engine powered material handling equipment.
- Experience with the use of hand tools and measuring devices, and electrical/electronic diagnostic tools/measurements.
- Knowledge and experience with industrial equipment, including lifting/rigging, maintaining, dismantling, and installing machinery and industrial mechanical service equipment.
- Exposure to aligning equipment, using dial indicators/calipers, micrometers, hoists, or jacks is a plus.
- Strong time-management skills to perform effectively under pressure.
- Strong communication skills, showing an appreciation of customer needs.
- Trade qualification (Heavy Equipment, Agriculture, Automotive, Truck/Transport) considered an asset.
