Job Overview
The Royal Mental Health Centre is seeking a skilled Registered Nurse with expertise in psychiatric nursing to join our team.
Key Responsibilities
- Nursing Care: Provide high-quality nursing care to individuals with mental illness in accordance with College Standards and treatment goals.
- Treatment Planning: Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement patient-centered treatment plans.
- Service Coordination: Identify and coordinate necessary services and resources for patients, ensuring their rights and entitlements are protected.
- Leadership: Lead and guide nursing staff in daily work assignments, ensuring tasks are completed to standards.
- Emergency Response: Manage and direct patient care in crisis situations, recognizing and intervening in emergent health problems.
- Therapeutic Environment: Create a safe, therapeutic environment for patients, providing acute nursing care and crisis management.
- Medication Administration: Prepare and administer medications as per policy and procedure.
- Legislative Knowledge: Apply the Mental Health Act and other relevant legislation in psychiatric nursing practice.
- Compliance: Work in compliance with The Royal's safety practices, policies, and procedures.
- Anti-Discrimination: Foster a work environment free from racism, harassment, and discrimination, in line with The Royal's Anti-Racism, Harassment & Discrimination-Free Workplace policy.
- Assistance with Symptoms: Provide direct assistance with symptom management, including medication preparation and administration.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Credentials: Current registration as a Registered Nurse in Ontario is required.
- Education: BScN preferred.
- Certifications: Certification in psychiatric/mental health nursing considered an asset.
- Legislative Knowledge: Clear understanding of the MHA and relevant legislation.
- Practice Standards: Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skill in psychiatric nursing practice, adhering to Canadian Standards of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing Practice.
- Education and Training: Completion of Royal nursing and hospital standards for mandatory education (CPR, WHIMIS, Fire Safety and Evacuation Training).
- Training and Development: CPI and ASSIST training considered an asset.
- Standards of Practice: Ability to meet the Standards of nursing practice of the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Leadership and Teamwork: Recognized leadership skills, with the ability to build an inter-disciplinary team approach to delivering interventions.
- Communication and Problem-Solving: Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team.
- Background Check: Satisfactory Criminal Reference Check – vulnerable sector.
- Language Skills: English level A- mandatory in oral expression, oral comprehension, reading comprehension, and written expression. Bilingualism an asset.
Salary Range: $37.93 to $54.37 per hour
