Financial Controller Job DescriptionAbout the Role

destinationone Consulting is seeking a highly skilled Financial Controller to join our client, Nanak Foods. The successful candidate will provide strategic financial leadership, ensuring the company\'s financial planning, debt financing, and budget management functions are executed efficiently.

This is a dynamic and visionary role that requires a strong financial professional with excellent leadership and coordination skills. The Financial Controller will report directly to the CEO and will be responsible for overseeing daily operations of the finance department, managing A/R and A/P teams, and preparing monthly financial reporting and quarterly financial statements.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Oversee daily operations of the finance department, including A/R, A/P, cash flow management, and timely monthly closing procedures.
  2. Manage the preparation of monthly financial reporting and quarterly financial statements, forecasts, and analysis.
  3. Manage A/R and A/P teams to improve processes, ensuring timely monthly closing, accuracy of accounting entries in the ERP system, and organized filing of required documents.
  4. Manage intercompany transactions and prepare consolidated quarterly financial statements for the PMF group of entities.
  5. Direct and coordinate company financial planning and budget management functions.
  6. Manage short-term investments, loan positions, and requirements, electronic banking, and foreign exchange transactions.
  7. Manage the audit of annual financial statements with external auditors.
  8. Review, evaluate, and administer corporate insurance programs.
  9. Ensure compliance with provincial and federal tax and reporting requirements.
  10. Produce various management reports, including inventory reports and analysis.
  11. Manage accounting and tax planning of related corporations.
  12. Assist in decision-making related to product pricing, project management, and bulk ingredient purchases.
  13. Manage cash flow and ensure prompt payment to vendors and maintain accounts receivable efficiently.
  14. Coordinate with other departments to set up processes, ensuring efficient document flow and internal controls.
  15. Liaise with banks to manage current reporting and financing, build, and maintain relationships for future financing needs.
  16. Liaise with various government departments to manage quotas, subsidies, and reporting.
  17. Oversee and manage the setup of the ERP system, ensuring all transactions are reflecting in the correct GL accounts.
Requirements
  • 7+ years of experience in a senior-level finance or accounting position.
  • Possess an accounting CPA designation.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting CPA concepts and principles (Canadian GAAP and ASPE).
  • Experience with ERP systems.
  • Excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office and advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements, and projections.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to identify and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Strong work ethic and a positive attitude.
  • Set up internal audit controls.
  • Audit experience preferred.
