About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Carpenter to join our team at BFL Construction Inc. as a Construction Specialist. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the quality and safety of our construction projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Project Execution: Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and sketches to determine work requirements, and prepare layouts in conformance to building codes using measuring tools.
  • Material Handling: Measure, cut, shape, assemble, and join materials made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel, and other materials.
  • Site Management: Build foundations, install floor beams, lay subflooring, and erect walls and roof systems, and fit and install windows, doors, stairs, mouldings, and hardware.
  • Maintenance and Repair: Maintain, repair, and renovate residences and wooden structures in mills, mines, hospitals, industrial plants, and other establishments.
Work Environment and Physical Capabilities
  • Physical Demands: Bending, crouching, kneeling, and a combination of sitting, standing, and walking.
Support for Newcomers and Refugees
  • Program Participation: Participate in a government or community program or initiative that supports newcomers and/or refugees.
  • Settlement Support: Assist with immediate settlement needs of newcomers and/or refugees, such as housing, transportation, storage, childcare, and winter clothing.
  • Social and Labour Market Integration: Support the social and labour market integration of newcomers and/or refugees, including facilitating access to community resources, language training, and skills training.
  • Recruitment and Mentorship: Recruit newcomers and/or refugees who were displaced by a conflict or a natural disaster, and offer mentorship programs that pair newcomers and/or refugees with experienced employees.
  • Credential Recognition: Support newcomers and/or refugees with foreign credential recognition, and provide diversity and cross-cultural training to create a welcoming work environment.
Support for Youths
  • Program Participation: Participate in a government or community program or initiative that supports youth employment.
  • On-the-Job Training: Offer on-the-job training tailored to youth, and provide mentorship, coaching, and/or networking opportunities for youth.
  • Awareness Training: Provide awareness training to employees to create a welcoming work environment for youth.
Support for Veterans
  • Program Participation: Participate in a government or community program or initiative that supports Veterans.
  • Mentorship and Coaching: Offer mentorship, coaching, and/or networking opportunities for Veterans.
  • Awareness Training: Provide awareness training to employees to create a welcoming work environment for Veterans.
  • Recruitment and Transition Support: Recruit Veterans and other candidates with military experience through targeted hiring initiatives, and assist with immediate transition needs of Veterans, such as relocation and housing.
  • Workshop and Counselling Services: Offer workshops, counselling services, or other resources to help Veterans navigate their transition into the civilian workforce.
  • Skills Translation: Support Veterans in translating their military skills and experience into the language of the civilian job market.
  • Flexible Onboarding: Offer flexible onboarding options to allow Veterans to gradually adapt to the civilian workplace.
Support for Indigenous People
  • Program Participation: Participate in a government or community program or initiative that supports Indigenous people.
  • Mentorship and Coaching: Offer mentorship, coaching, and/or networking opportunities for Indigenous workers.
  • Cultural Competency Training: Provide cultural competency training and/or awareness training to all employees to create a welcoming work environment for Indigenous workers.
  • Elder Support: Facilitate access to Elders who can offer support and guidance to Indigenous workers.
Support for Mature Workers
  • Hiring Policies: Apply hiring policies that discourage age discrimination.
  • Awareness Training: Provide staff with awareness training to create a welcoming work environment for mature workers.
  • Mentorship and Coaching: Offer mentorship, coaching, and/or networking opportunities for mature workers.
Support for Visible Minorities
  • Program Participation: Participate in a government or community program or initiative that supports members of visible minorities.
  • Hiring Policies: Apply hiring policies that discourage discrimination against members of visible minorities.
