About the Opportunity

The Nova Scotia Health and IWK Health organization is seeking a skilled Health Care Social Worker to join its team of healthcare professionals. As a member of the interdisciplinary health care team, this individual will provide support to clients and families through therapeutic intervention to promote holistic functioning.

This role offers opportunities for people living with mental illness and experiencing significant functional challenges to participate and receive needed supports through group interventions in an outpatient and community setting. The successful candidate will facilitate, restore, or maintain client's optimal level of function related to life skills, cooking, paying bills, employment, education, treatment, wellness, and health promotion, relapse prevention, areas of self-care, productivity, and leisure.

About You
  • A Bachelor's degree in Social Work from a recognized university is required.
  • Current registration with the Nova Scotia College of Social Workers is also mandatory.
  • The ideal candidate should have at least two years of post-BSW clinical experience.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Diagnostic & Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) are essential.
  • Prior experience working with clients with MHA concerns is preferred.

We are looking for someone who can demonstrate knowledge of various treatment theories and practices, including harm reduction, motivational interviewing, and stages of change. Experience with group facilitation, biopsychosocial assessments, and excellent communication skills are also required. A valid Nova Scotia Driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle are necessary for this role. Competencies in other languages, particularly French, are considered an asset.

What We Offer

Nova Scotia Health and IWK Health provides a comprehensive compensation package, which includes a salary range of $35.86 - $45.29 per hour, depending on experience. In addition to the competitive salary, we offer benefits such as health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage, as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
