Pathology Assistant

We are seeking a highly skilled and certified Pathology Assistant to join our team at Nova Scotia Health Authority. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for performing Gross Room and Autopsy activities, working closely with pathologists and laboratory management to ensure accurate and timely diagnoses.
About YouTo be successful in this role, you will need to possess a strong background in anatomy, physiology, histology, pathology, and medical terminology. You will also need to have excellent customer service skills, leadership skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Additionally, you will need to be proficient in Cerner LIS and have experience with Dragon, an asset.
Responsibilities- Perform Gross Room and Autopsy activities, including procuring tissues and organs, dissecting tissues, and submitting samples for pathological diagnosis.
- Assist pathologists in the initial assessment of surgically removed tissues and evaluate gross pathologic features to assist in diagnosis.
- Provide expertise and support to Medical Laboratory Technologists (MLTs) who are performing grossing.
- Support the pathologist by performing autopsy prosection and procuring appropriate tissues and organs.
- Certified as a Pathology Assistant by the Canadian Certification Council of Pathologists' Assistants (CCCPA) or by the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC) required.
- Graduate of an approved MSc Pathologist Assistant program preferred.
- Experience with Cerner LIS preferred.
- Experience with Dragon, an asset.
- Previous background in anatomy, physiology, histology, pathology, and medical terminology.
- Must have demonstrated customer service skills, leadership skills, excellent organization and technical skills, and good decision-making skills.
- Ability to work both independently/unsupervised and in a team-oriented environment.
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally.
- Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred.
