About the Opportunity

We are seeking a Senior Water Quality Expert to join our team at WSP USA. This is an exciting opportunity to lead complex water quality projects across Western Canada and the North.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement water quality, sediment quality, and aquatic effects monitoring programs for multiple sectors in BC, and resource development projects throughout Western Canada and the North.
  • Lead project teams responsible for program design, data collection, assessment, and reporting.
  • Provide leadership to projects teams over the entire life cycle of a project and can point to a track-record of success in the technical delivery of complex water quality and environmental effects monitoring projects.
  • Oversee teams during data collection and reporting, ensuring high-quality results.
  • Critical thinker with strong communication skills to convey scientific work to non-scientific audiences.
  • Support clients in their regulatory and engagement efforts with Indigenous Groups, stakeholders, and the public.
  • Prepare technical reports and guide junior staff in report preparation for submission to provincial and federal regulatory authorities.
  • Manage project timelines and budgets effectively.

Requirements:

  • University education in environmental science, toxicology, or biological sciences, or a related field. A master's degree is preferred, but a bachelor's degree with significant work experience is considered equivalent.
  • Professional Registration as a Registered Professional Biologist (College of Applied Biology of British Columbia) or eligible for professional registration.
  • 10 or more years of relevant experience.
  • Positive attitude, willingness to share knowledge, and ability to mentor staff.
  • Clear communication skills, both verbally and in writing, and at all levels.
  • In-depth knowledge of BC and CCME water quality guidelines and their derivation.
  • Good understanding of the Environmental Assessment process in BC and experience in preparing regulatory submissions.
  • Clean Driver's Abstract and willingness to travel on occasion.

  • Estimated Salary: $102,100 - $140,400
