About the Role

We're seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Engineer to join our Forecasting and Real-Time Optimization Platform (FORTOP) team at Lyft. As a key member of our Marketplace org, you'll be responsible for designing, developing, and deploying large-scale distributed systems that empower our users to make the most effective use of Lyft's products and experiences.

Responsibilities
  • Design and develop scalable, reliable, and efficient distributed systems using Beam, Flink, Kafka, and other technologies.
  • Collaborate with engineers and partners in science & product to drive projects from inception to launch.
  • Build and operate large-scale data pipelines, ensuring real-time data consumption, storage, and sharing with the entirety of Lyft.
  • Write high-quality, well-tested, and maintainable code, participating in code reviews to ensure code quality and distribute knowledge.
  • Share knowledge by giving technical talks, brown bags, and evangelizing best practices in distributed systems and software engineering.
Requirements
  • 5+ years of software engineering industry experience.
  • BS/MS or equivalent in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field, or relevant work experience.
  • Experience in backend software development of large-scale distributed systems.
  • Understanding of distributed systems concepts and principles, including consistency and availability, liveness and safety, durability, reliability, fault-tolerance, and consensus algorithms.
  • Preferred: Experience in streaming platforms (Beam, Flink, or similar) and/or distributed messaging (Kafka, Kinesis, or similar).
  • Preferred: Experience in Machine Learning.
