Job Summary

The Human Resources Advisor plays a pivotal role in attracting top talent and ensuring a rigorous selection process for current and future positions. This includes applying HR tools such as behavioral-based interviewing and scoring systems to make objective recommendations. Industry knowledge is essential in promoting strengths to effectively recruit and retain drivers and Owner Operators. The Human Resources Advisor participates in the retention of quality personnel by committing to and promoting good work ethic and communication among staff and management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Selection and Recruitment
    • Perform all activities related to selection and recruitment, including behavioral-based interviews, verification of references, and coordinating tests.
    • Make arrangements with managers and supervisors for interviews and road tests.
    • Ensure timely processing of all applications, including internet, in-person, and phone inquiries.
    • Verify that candidates have all necessary documents to be qualified for hiring.
  • Recording of Data
    • Ensure accurate and timely updates of open personnel, WCB, and disciplinary files.
    • Enter all Master Files information into the computer.
    • Maintain current certificates of clearances (WSIB) for Operators.
  • Health & Safety
    • Oversee and chair the Safety Committee for assigned terminals.
    • Appoint and direct safety committee members.
    • Administer all WSIB claims.
    • Responsible for the Health & Safety Program.
  • HR Responsibilities: Onboarding, Labor Relations, Employee Relations, Review and Implementation of Workplace Policies
    • Monitor key recruiting metrics, such as turnover and retention rates.
    • Answer human resources queries posed by management and employees.
    • Train and advise managers on strategies for recruitment, selection, and interview evaluation procedures.
    • Assist with the development of recruitment campaigns.
    • Discuss terms and conditions of employment and benefits with staff members.
    • Review employees' work progress using an employee appraisal system and make recommendations, if necessary.
    • Conduct benchmarking for better understanding of the market.
    • Update HR policies in line with current legislation and inform senior management about changes.
    • Look after disciplinary actions.
  • Coordination between Terminals
    • Ensure consistency between terminals by following prescribed procedures and utilizing the department database, as well as regular communication.
  • Other Responsibilities
    • Participate in and organize corporate events and shows, promoting the company and its benefits.
    • Participate in meetings between HR and Ops to create a respectful environment that makes XTL a productive employer of choice.
    • Assist in organizing employer branding initiatives.
    • Design and help implement company policies.
    • Act as the point of contact for hiring managers, employees, and other HR team members.
    • Suggest new HR technology solutions to improve day-to-day operations.
    • Capture and report feedback from 14/40/80 day interviews.
