About the Role

The Facility Maintenance Technician is a key member of our team at BGIS, responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our facilities. This includes performing routine and preventative maintenance on mechanical and electrical systems, as well as responding to service requests and monitoring facility conditions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Troubleshooting and Maintenance
    • Conduct regular inspections and monitoring of facility systems to identify potential issues and recommend enhancements.
    • Perform maintenance and repairs on mechanical and electrical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems.
    • Respond to service requests and perform on-demand maintenance as needed.
  • Client Relations
    • Provide excellent customer service and ensure that all interactions with clients are professional and courteous.
    • Assist in enhancing tenant satisfaction and maintaining positive relationships through the manner in which work is performed and services delivered.
  • Administration
    • Participate in and assist with facility-related projects, including maintenance and repair initiatives.
    • Ensure that all work is performed in compliance with corporate and legislated policies, procedures, and guidelines related to environmental, health, and safety, fire protection, and other applicable requirements.

Requirements

  • Education and Experience
    • High school diploma plus trades training and/or certification or licensing.
    • Minimum 5 years' experience in a critical facility providing preventive and corrective maintenance on heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, or pneumatic or hydraulic systems.
  • Knowledge and Skills
    • Sound knowledge of processes and practices relating to facility operations and maintenance.
    • Demonstrated ability to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical and other building systems and equipment.
    • Possesses a strong environmental, health, and safety mindset.
    • Strong client-service orientation along with a high sense of urgency.
    • Knowledge and understanding of Building Automation Systems (BAS).
    • In-depth knowledge of electrical systems and components (UPS, ATS, Generator).
    • Effective communication skills for the purpose of data relay, exchange, feedback, and clarification.
    • Mentoring skills required to support lower-level technician's development.

Licenses and/or Professional Accreditation

  • Building Operator Certification or equivalent through an accredited institution is a minimum requirement.
  • Red Seal Trade License (HVAC or Electrical) is an asset.
