Director of Data Science Job Description

This role is designed for an experienced leader to oversee data science initiatives, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and ensure that data contributes effectively to company objectives.

The ideal candidate possesses strong leadership skills, deep technical expertise, and a proven track record in leading data science teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership: Define and drive the overall vision and strategy for the data science department to align with company goals.
  • Project Oversight: Oversee the development of data science projects, ensuring quality and adherence to best practices, timelines, and business needs.
  • Data Strategy and Architecture: Collaborate with engineering teams to design and enhance data pipelines, storage solutions, and data architectures.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other departments to identify opportunities for leveraging data to drive business solutions.
  • Innovation: Stay abreast of the latest data science trends, tools, and methodologies to introduce new and innovative solutions.
  • Performance Metrics: Establish KPIs to measure the impact of data science initiatives and communicate results to stakeholders.
  • Risk Management: Identify potential risks in data handling and develop strategies to mitigate them, ensuring data privacy and compliance with relevant regulations.

Qualifications:

  • Educational Background: Master's or Ph.D. in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 10 years in data science or a related field, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Technical Proficiency: Strong knowledge of statistical modeling, machine learning algorithms, and advanced analytics. Proficiency in Python, R, SQL, and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, or GCP).
  • Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead, mentor, and inspire data science teams and collaborate with senior leadership.
  • Analytical Thinking: Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical capabilities with a strategic mindset.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas in a clear and concise manner.
  • Business Acumen: Strong understanding of how data science can impact business decisions and drive value.

Estimated Salary: $120,000 - $180,000 per year
