The Commercial Property Underwriter plays a crucial role in analyzing and evaluating complex business risks to ensure the company's guidelines are met. This position requires collaboration with the sales force to provide value-added expertise and service to policyholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough risk assessments using technology and external data sources to determine the acceptability of business risks.
- Arrange reinsurance or subscribing companies as necessary to mitigate risk.
- Determine policy renewal eligibility based on company guidelines and retention goals.
- Maintain accurate records of decisions and policy data.
- Communicate decisions and respond to requests in a prompt and professional manner.
- Act as a subject matter expert on insurance policies, processes, regulations, and audit.
- Mentor and train less experienced team members.
- Participate in quality assurance reviews to ensure adherence to company standards.
- Support business change initiatives and ensure efficient handling of work assignments.
- Influence team members to achieve team goals and foster positive working relationships with internal and external parties.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Five years of experience in the Property and Casualty industry.
- Post-secondary education or related business experience.
- Completed or actively pursuing a Property and Casualty Industry Designation.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent attention to detail and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to adapt to change and perform under pressure.
- Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
