Job Overview

The Commercial Property Underwriter plays a crucial role in analyzing and evaluating complex business risks to ensure the company's guidelines are met. This position requires collaboration with the sales force to provide value-added expertise and service to policyholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough risk assessments using technology and external data sources to determine the acceptability of business risks.
  • Arrange reinsurance or subscribing companies as necessary to mitigate risk.
  • Determine policy renewal eligibility based on company guidelines and retention goals.
  • Maintain accurate records of decisions and policy data.
  • Communicate decisions and respond to requests in a prompt and professional manner.
  • Act as a subject matter expert on insurance policies, processes, regulations, and audit.
  • Mentor and train less experienced team members.
  • Participate in quality assurance reviews to ensure adherence to company standards.
  • Support business change initiatives and ensure efficient handling of work assignments.
  • Influence team members to achieve team goals and foster positive working relationships with internal and external parties.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Five years of experience in the Property and Casualty industry.
  • Post-secondary education or related business experience.
  • Completed or actively pursuing a Property and Casualty Industry Designation.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent attention to detail and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to adapt to change and perform under pressure.
  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
