Job Description

Finch Employment is seeking a seasoned Manufacturing Operations Director to oversee the daily operations of our Toronto-based mattress manufacturing facility.

This role involves managing production, ensuring quality, and achieving efficiency goals while maintaining a safe work environment. The successful candidate will lead a team of supervisors, technicians, and production staff, implementing best practices in manufacturing, quality control, and team development.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operational Management: Plan, organize, and manage the overall production process, ensuring compliance with quality standards, production schedules, and cost targets.
  • Monitor and optimize production workflow resource allocation, and machinery usage to maximize efficiency. Ensure effective implementation of lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement strategies.
Team Leadership:
  • Oversee recruitment, training, and development of production and supervisory staff to build a high performing team.
  • Foster a positive workplace culture with a strong focus on teamwork, accountability, and safety. Conduct performance evaluations, provide constructive feedback, and establish individual and team performance goals.
Health and Safety Compliance:
  • Develop and implement safety policies and practices to minimize workplace hazards and comply with local and federal regulations.
  • Conduct regular safety audits, provide training, and ensure that all employees follow safety protocols.
Inventory and Supply Chain Coordination:
  • Ensure efficient management of inventory and raw materials, coordinating with purchasing and supply chain teams to prevent shortages and delays.
  • Optimize inventory levels, working closely with logistics to meet customer delivery schedules.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in industrial engineering, operations management, manufacturing, or a related field.
  • Proven experience (3+ years) in a manufacturing plant management role, preferably within the mattress or similar industry.
  • Strong understanding of production planning, lean manufacturing, and quality management systems.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and develop teams.
  • Proficiency in production management software, ERP systems, and data analysis tools.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to identifying and addressing operational challenges.
  • Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations in a manufacturing setting.
