Nova Scotia Health, a leading academic healthcare organization in Atlantic Canada, is seeking a Medical Physicist to join its Cancer Care Program at the QEII Health Sciences Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia. As a member of the Department of Medical Physics, you will play a vital role in cancer care, collaborating with a dynamic team of physicists, dosimetrists, and technologists to advance the department's academic mandate of research and post-graduate training activities.
Clinically, you will contribute to treatment planning, quality assurance, and the development of new treatment techniques and protocols. Academically, you will have a faculty appointment in the Dalhousie University Department of Radiation Oncology and provide teaching and supervision in CAMPEP-accredited Masters, Doctoral, and Certificate programs in medical physics. The programs focus on novel technologies for image-guided and adaptive radiotherapy, innovative approaches to arc-based therapy, and the application of functional and molecular imaging to radiation therapy.
The treatment facility in Halifax features seven Varian treatment units, including five TrueBeam units, one equipped with stereoscopic imaging and robotic guidance. A major initiative is the deployment of adaptive radiotherapy, with one HyperSight-equipped Ethos unit and three additional Ethos units to be installed within the coming year. The facility also administers an active brachytherapy service, including ultrasound-based, real-time prostate HDR. External beam and brachytherapy treatment planning are done with Eclipse and Oncentra, respectively. MRI and PET imaging and cyclotron facilities are also on site.
About YouWe are seeking a highly qualified candidate with a doctoral degree in Medical Physics or Physics with specialization in Medical Physics, certification by the Canadian College of Physicists in Medicine (MCCPM) or the American Board of Radiology (DABR), and a strong track record of funded research in radiation oncology physics. Competencies in other languages are an asset, with French being preferred. You will also offer exceptional interpersonal, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
Hours and CompensationThis is a permanent, full-time position with 75 hours bi-weekly. Successful candidates may be eligible for our benefits package, which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage, as well as a defined benefit pension plan. Compensation is currently under review.
