Road Construction and Community Relations Specialist

Dawson Group is seeking an experienced Business Development Manager to play a pivotal role in identifying growth opportunities, securing projects, and fostering positive relationships with key stakeholders including indigenous communities.
In this permanent, full-time position, you will work in Kamloops, BC and require travel throughout the province. You will be a valued member of our team, reporting to the Manager of Civil.
The successful candidate will develop and implement a comprehensive business development opportunity strategy that integrates with our overall strategic plan across Dawson.
- Foster partnerships with local businesses to participate in projects as suppliers, subcontractors, or partners, ensuring fair procurement practices that support economic development.
- Conduct thorough market research to identify potential opportunities with road construction and maintenance projects, staying informed about local and regional infrastructure development plans and funding opportunities.
- Collaborate with experts to conduct comprehensive assessments of potential project impacts on stakeholder communities, implementing sustainable practices in road construction and maintenance to minimize ecological impacts on the environment.
- Ensure our commitment to indigenous relations is reflected in all activities, demonstrating a long-term commitment to stakeholder relations throughout the project lifecycle.
- Maintain transparency in all interactions with stakeholders, providing regular reports on project progress, including updates on environmental and social performance.
- Evaluate compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and agreements related to indigenous rights and land use, negotiating impact benefit agreements (IBAs) when appropriate.
- Actively engage with indigenous leaders, elders, and community members to build trust and establish open lines of communication.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A Business Diploma or equivalent.
- Proven experience in civil construction management or a related field.
- Several years of experience in business development within the construction or infrastructure industry, with a focus on road construction and maintenance.
- A strong understanding of indigenous relations and principles of engagement.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and cross-cultural skills.
- Proficiency in project management and contract administration.
- Familiarity with GIS for mapping and analysis in indigenous territories.
- Experience with sustainable and environmentally friendly road construction practices.
- Knowledge of federal grant and funding programs for infrastructure projects with indigenous involvement.
- Respect for the principle of Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC) when working with indigenous communities.
