Job Overview:

The Director, Employee Relations is responsible for leading and managing the Employee Relations function within an assigned region/function. This role ensures business strategies, plans and initiatives are executed in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop ER strategies, initiatives, policies and programs that align with Scotiabank's strategic priorities, goals and legal requirements.
  • Oversee the ER team's management of workplace issues and incidents, including investigations of employee concerns and escalations.
  • Lead ER case management practices, instilling trust in data reporting and trend analysis for insights delivery to Global HR, compliance, business leaders.
  • Manage high-risk complex cases and act as a point of escalation on complex matters arising in their region/function.
  • Create a framework to proactively address and manage issues at the local level, mitigating negative impact while promoting proactive risk management.
  • Collaborate with business and HR/LR leaders to govern collective bargaining agreements and address labour issues.
  • Ensure understanding of Scotiabank's risk appetite and risk culture in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Build a high performance environment and implement a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates the team.
  • Expert knowledge of government policies/legislation.
  • Strong communication and business writing skills.
  • Experience managing teams across locations and geographies.
  • Language proficiency: English is required; Spanish and/or French is an asset.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, Business or related field.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in Employee Relations or related field.
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing successful ER strategies and initiatives.
