Job Summary:

The Speech Language Pathologist will provide speech and language services to referred stroke survivors within the LHIN designated boundaries of Grey and Bruce Counties. The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing and treating swallowing disorders, cognitive impairment, and attaining optimal communication and supported conversation abilities that relate to fostering independence in the home and a return to activities that are important to the client.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess and treat swallowing disorders in stroke survivors
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans to improve communication and cognitive abilities
  • Provide consultation and education/training/in-services related to stroke rehabilitation for service providers, caregivers, and families
  • Collaborate with an interprofessional team to deliver an innovative rehabilitation service to help stroke survivors and their caregivers reach their optimal level of recovery in their own home and community
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community partners to promote stroke rehabilitation services

Requirements:

  • Member in good standing of the College of Audiologists and Speech and Language Pathologists of Ontario
  • Master's degree or equivalent in Speech Language Pathology
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support certification
  • Clinical expertise and experience in stroke rehabilitation and demonstrated knowledge of current stroke rehabilitation best practices including management of dysphagia
  • Experience in clinical assessment of swallowing
  • Experience in working in a community setting
  • Experience in working in an interprofessional team with a demonstrated ability to practice effectively in an inter-professional collaborative environment
  • Understanding of the role and responsibilities of varied rehabilitation professionals in the provision of stroke rehabilitation
  • Working knowledge and experience with theories and principles of guiding adult learning and patient self-management approaches
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, problem-solving, and innovation skills
  • Proven flexibility and a high level of initiative
  • Ability to work with and direct support personnel
  • Appreciation of resource utilization and comfortable working in a virtual environment
  • Ability to utilize Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word
  • A valid Ontario driver's license and a reliable insured vehicle; willingness to travel throughout Grey Bruce
  • Ability to work all shifts, including weekends; ability for multi-site coverage when required
  • Recent satisfactory performance and attendance records
  • Adherence to Brightshores 'CARE' Behaviours and 'LEAD' Competencies
