Job Summary

Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking a skilled Total Care Worker to join their team at the Tertiary Mental Health - Assessment and Treatment unit at Vancouver General Hospital.

About the Role

This is a challenging and rewarding position that requires a high level of empathy, compassion, and understanding. As a Total Care Worker, you will be responsible for providing care to older adults who are experiencing acute deterioration or exacerbation of severe psychiatric symptoms with behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD) as well as physical care needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide personal care to clients such as bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, and feeding
  • Assist clients with daily living skills and accompany them on group outings
  • Observe and report client progress and participate in unit discussions and in-services
  • Administer suppositories and enemas and take and record temperature, pulse, and respiration

Qualifications
  • Grade 12 and graduation from a recognized Resident Care Attendant Program
  • 2 years' recent experience working with older adults with BPSD or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
