Compliance and Risk Management Advisor

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Compliance Counsel to join our team, based out of any of our Canadian offices. This is a remote position with attendance required in office approximately once a week (subject to ongoing review). As a member of the Compliance team, you will be responsible for overseeing the firm's compliance with applicable rules of professional conduct, regulatory obligations, and legal orders.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Conduct and/or review domestic search requests that require escalation, particularly in litigious matters, to identify potential conflicts of interest for new clients and matters.
- Review and analyze international conflict search requests, particularly in litigious matters, liaising with the Compliance teams in EMEA, Australia, South Africa, and the United States.
- Communicate effectively with fee-earners throughout the compliance checking process, building consensus to resolve conflicts and advising on results.
- Provide guidance and counsel to fee earners on compliance and conflicts issues.
- Prepare waiver/consent language and assist with drafting engagement letters for partner review and submission to clients.
- Draft ethical screens and assist with information barrier management.
- Collaborate with a team of analysts to ensure consistent workflow and timely production of requests.
- Provide guidance and counsel to Compliance team members on compliance and conflicts issues.
Your Skills and Qualifications
- A minimum of 2 years of experience working as a fee-earner or in the regulatory area in a similar international legal practice.
- Excellent commercial judgment.
- Strong written and oral communication skills with experience operating in a multi-cultural environment.
- Sufficient influencing skills to work successfully and confidently at all levels, including senior management and partners.
- Sufficiently confident to exercise risk-based judgment calls daily.
