We are seeking a highly skilled Civil Engineering Project Lead to join our dynamic team at Solaris Management Consultants Inc. in Surrey, British Columbia.

Job Description

The ideal candidate will possess 10+ years of experience in civil engineering, with a strong background in project management, leadership, and technical expertise. You will be responsible for leading a small team of engineers and designers, providing accurate civil designs, and ensuring projects are executed efficiently and effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide detailed production of engineering designs, drawings, and specifications for site development including grading, earthworks, drainages, roadway, fencing, erosion, and sediment control and retaining walls
  • Work from preliminary concepts and sketches into engineering designs, plans, and project informational requirements, using primarily Civil 3D, as well as other technical software as needed
  • Review and check design drawings for accuracy
  • Prepare design reports, letters, and technical memorandums
  • Coordinate and assist in the preparation of documents required for approvals, prepare development and construction cost estimates, and coordinate with other team members to ensure schedules, budgets and quality control standards are achieved

Lead Responsibilities:

  • Provide recommendations to improve design efficiencies where possible
  • Forecast labor resources and provide schedule input
  • Monitor engineering and drafting progress and provide input to progress reports
  • Review and prepare project documents such as specifications and contract documents while always ensuring technical accuracy
  • Coordinate tasks and work schedules to achieve the project objectives
  • Liaises with different disciplines to resolve design problems, discuss project criteria, and facilitate smooth project coordination
  • Follow company standards and EGBC guidelines for design and checking
  • Mentor junior engineers
  • Will be responsible for approving and stamping engineering drawings
  • May participate in recruitment activities and provide guidance with employee relation matters
Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A Post-secondary education with a degree in Civil Engineering
  • Interest in the design of green energy industrial facilities
  • Registered or eligible to register as a P. Eng with EGBC
  • Registration in the US as a PE would be considered an asset
  • 10+ years of experience in a similar role
  • Ability to use judgment in pressure situations to solve problems based on engineering guidelines and procedures
  • Ability to work with limited supervision, but open-minded with the ability to follow in the application of specialized design software such Civil 3D, PCSWMM, AutoTURN, or equivalent
  • Strong leadership capabilities with the ability and desire to supervise a small group of professionals
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a high degree of professionalism
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and understanding and application of engineering codes and standards
  • Experience in Engineering Industrial projects such as mining, forestry, natural gas, pipeline, or LNG would be considered an asset, but we are willing to train as on stormwater modelling, flood hazard assessment, retaining wall design, slope stability assessments, or traffic impact study would be an asset
  • Previous field or site experience would be an asset
