Job Summary

The Lead Negotiator, Pharmaceutical Partnerships is a key role within Cigna Health and Life Insurance Company, responsible for executing and delivering on the company's Pharmaceutical Partnerships strategy. This position requires a strong understanding of the pharmaceutical industry, market access, and benefits/insurance industry.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain relationships with pharmaceutical manufacturers to negotiate product listing agreements (PLAs) that foster the financial sustainability of drug plans.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including the in-house clinical team, to identify opportunities and align with clients on the viability of proposed formulary changes.
  • Oversee the day-to-day activities related to PLAs to ensure smooth operations and execution of agreements.
  • Monitor current market and external issues impacting pharmaceutical reimbursement, including industry trends, public policy, and the competitive landscape.
  • Lead the execution of the PLA negotiation process with pharmaceutical manufacturers, including negotiation strategy, negotiation phase, and contracting.
  • Understand and align with carrier strategies to deliver meaningful PLAs across provincial regulatory boundaries.
  • Responsible for coordinating legal and business review of negotiated documents and resolving contract interpretation questions related to rebate agreements.
  • Deliver annual PLA forecasts within budget.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in pharmaceutical market access, pharmacy, health insurance industry, or benefits management.
  • University degree in Pharmacy, Business, Science, or related field preferred; clinical background considered a strong asset.
  • Bilingual English and French considered a strong asset.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Subject matter expertise in market access, benefits/insurance industry, value proposition development, drug reimbursement processes in the public and private payer landscape, and public policy.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to create and deliver professional and impactful presentations.
  • Strong ability to negotiate and influence stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple competing priorities.
  • Strong analytical skills and business acumen with the ability to synthesize complex concepts/information.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Canadian pharmaceutical landscape, Pharmacy Benefit Management, and Provincial Formularies and Regulations.
  • Established relationships with pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers considered a strong asset.
