Senior Biosafety Specialist

Biosafety Specialist Job Summary
This role is responsible for the effective coordination of biosafety programs within the BCCA research sites. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in laboratory operations, emergency response management, and project management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and manage all aspects of laboratory and clinical research-related safety issues, including biological safety, chemical safety, and emergency preparedness.
- Develop and audit the effectiveness of biosafety, chemical safety, and emergency planning programs.
- Identify training needs and develop training programs for staff.
- Liaise with Protection Services and Facilities to coordinate emergency drills and exercises.
- Undertake risk assessments and recommend risk mitigation strategies.
- Inspect facilities and operational practices to ensure compliance with safety programs and legislative requirements.
Requirements:
- Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field.
- Five years of recent, related experience, including leadership experience in laboratory operations, emergency response management, and project management.
- Registration as a Canadian Registered Safety Professional is an asset.
