Job Summary

The Director of Engineering is a key leadership position responsible for overseeing the City's engineering services, including infrastructure development, maintenance, and operations. This role requires a strong technical background, excellent leadership and management skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategic plans for the engineering department, ensuring alignment with the City's goals and objectives.
  • Oversee the management of infrastructure development projects, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to the engineering team, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
  • Collaborate with other departments and stakeholders to identify and prioritize infrastructure needs, and develop solutions to address them.
  • Manage and maintain the City's infrastructure assets, including roads, bridges, water and sewer systems, and other public works facilities.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure the effective management of the engineering department, including safety protocols, quality control measures, and environmental sustainability initiatives.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the engineering team, including coaching, mentoring, and performance management.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with external stakeholders, including contractors, consultants, and other government agencies.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies, and apply this knowledge to improve the City's engineering services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Registration or eligibility to register as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in New Brunswick.
  • 10+ years of experience in municipal engineering and public works, with a strong background in infrastructure development, maintenance, and operations.
  • Excellent leadership, management, and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders.
  • Strong technical expertise, including knowledge of engineering principles, practices, and regulations.
  • Ability to analyze complex problems, develop creative solutions, and implement effective plans.
  • Strong business acumen, including budgeting, financial management, and contract administration.
