GeoComply seeks an experienced Legal Counsel to join our dynamic and growing Legal team. This role focuses on a diverse mix of commercial contracting, product counseling, privacy, and intellectual property (IP) matters. Reporting to the Director of Commercial & Product Legal, the successful candidate will provide day-to-day legal guidance, collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive business objectives while mitigating legal risk.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Commercial Contracting: Support commercial contracting processes by drafting, reviewing, and negotiating SaaS and licensing contracts, ensuring alignment with business and legal requirements.
  • Product Counseling: Provide legal guidance on product development, from ideation through launch, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations, including privacy and data protection standards.
  • IP and Licensing: Assist in managing IP assets, including drafting and reviewing licensing agreements, supporting patent initiatives, and protecting GeoComply's intellectual property.
  • Privacy & Data Governance: Ensure products and services comply with global privacy laws, including GDPR, CCPA, and other relevant standards, working closely with our privacy and compliance teams.
  • Risk Management & Compliance: Identify and address potential legal risks in commercial transactions and product development, proposing practical solutions to mitigate exposure.
Qualifications:
  • A law degree (LLB, LLM, JD) and Bar membership in a relevant US state and/or Canadian province.
  • A proven track record of legal experience in commercial contracting, technology transactions, privacy, and IP matters within a law firm and/or in-house legal department, preferably in the tech industry.
  • Ability to draft, review, and negotiate complex commercial and technology licensing contracts, and support the development of contract templates.
  • Solid understanding of existing and emerging privacy, data protection, and intellectual property laws.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to translate complex legal issues into actionable advice for business stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with legal operations management and technology adoption.

We estimate the salary range for this position to be between $120,000 and $180,000 per year, depending on experience. We champion a hybrid work model that blends in-person collaboration with flexibility to work from home. A 3-day in-office policy fosters teamwork and innovation, while also recognizing individual work styles and needs.
