Job Title: Project Development Engineer

As a key member of our Engineering Services team, you will play a crucial role in supporting the development and execution of capital projects. Your primary responsibilities will include leading the front-end development stages (FEL 1 and 2) and supporting FEED / detailed engineering / execution (FEL 3 and 4) stages. You will work closely with project sponsors and key stakeholders to ensure successful project outcomes. Your expertise will be instrumental in supporting refinery sustaining capital projects, renewable energy projects, hydrogen and biofuels projects, carbon capture and sequestration projects, and clean fuel regulations projects.

Your Responsibilities:
  1. Lead and/or actively participate in Front End Loading (FEL) 1 and FEL 2 project activities.
  2. Communicate and collaborate with project sponsors and key stakeholders as required.
  3. Develop Project Design Intent documents.
  4. Lead and/or actively participate in benefits analyses and business case development.
  5. Facilitate project work and studies with 3rd party consultants, technology licensors, and engineering contractors.
  6. Direct, review, and approve their work and deliverables.
  7. Lead and/or actively participate in key FEL 2 and FEL 3 project phase process engineering activities (e.g. PFD, P&ID, HAZOP, LOPA reviews, etc.).
  8. Support the development of project schedules, project execution plans, and cost estimates.
  9. Support detailed engineering, construction, and start-up activities associated with projects (FEL 4).
Your Skills:
  1. Understanding of the basic economic drivers of oil refining.
  2. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  3. Effective collaboration skills.
  4. Leadership experience (informal or formal).
  5. Ability to make clear, effective presentations to communicate recommendations to customers and management.
  6. Ability to work independently with limited supervision/direction.
  7. Self-motivated with attention to schedule and cost, and timely decision making.
  8. Attention to detail.
Your Experience:
  1. Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering with P.Eng. or working towards P.Eng.
  2. 8+ years of Refinery/Oil & Gas or Power Generation experience.
  3. 5+ years of experience in Refinery/Oil & Gas process engineering.
  4. Refinery process technology knowledge/design experience an asset.
  5. Process simulation skills/experience an asset.
  6. Experience representing the interests of refinery owner/operator in capital project development is a strong asset.
