About the Role

Halifax Public Libraries is seeking a skilled Adult Specialist to join our team. As an Adult Specialist, you will be responsible for planning, delivering, and evaluating adult programs and events at our Woodlawn Public Library branch.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement adult programming initiatives that promote literacy, education, and community engagement
  • Provide facilitation and support for adult programs and meetings
  • Build relationships and maintain partnerships with community organizations and stakeholders
  • Participate in hiring, training, and supporting staff in adult programming and public services
  • Recruit, hire, train, and oversee volunteers and grant-funded staff
  • Support regional projects and initiatives; participate on regional teams
  • Act as a resource in the area of adult programming and services
  • Act as Person in Charge in library branch(es)

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and two years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Excellent communication, conflict resolution, and customer service skills
  • Demonstrated ability to provide instruction and training
  • Experience in program planning and delivery for adults
  • Knowledge of media and resources of interest to adults
  • Basic computer knowledge and skills, including Microsoft Office and social media applications

  • Fluency in a second language
  • Awareness of community resources available to adults
  • Experience working with diverse communities
