Job Summary

Rutgers University is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Emergency Services Lieutenant to join our team. As a key member of our Emergency Services department, you will be responsible for providing emergency response command, control, and liaison capabilities throughout the University.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide field-level shift supervision and coordination of all Emergency Services personnel.
  • Work with university personnel and municipal responders to mitigate incidents and enforce fire codes.
  • Enforce the provisions of the New Jersey Uniform Fire Code in all applicable locations.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree and two years' experience in firefighting, emergency medical services, fire code enforcement, or hazardous materials mitigation.
  • Four years of firefighting experience.
  • Four years as an Emergency Medical Technician.
  • Experience at Fire Department company officer level.
Certifications and Licenses
  • New Jersey Approved Firefighter I and Firefighter II.
  • New Jersey Approved Incident Management Level I.
  • New Jersey Approved Emergency Medical Technician.
  • American Heart Association BLS / CPR for the healthcare provider.
  • New Jersey Approved Fire Inspector or Fire Official.
  • New Jersey Approved Hazardous Materials Response Awareness and Operational Levels.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC).
  • Hazardous Materials Technician.
  • New Jersey Approved Hazmat On Scene Incident Commander.
  • Fire Department command level officer experience.
  • Fire Code Inspection Experience.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Physically capable of performing the job with no restrictions.
  • Must be able to work rotating shift assignments, including days, evenings, and nights.
Special Conditions
  • Clean Driving Record.
