About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Civil Estimation Leader to join our Western Utilities team at Black & McDonald. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in estimating electrical works and possess excellent technical knowledge.

About the Job

This is a senior-level role that involves leading the analysis of cost estimates, preparing detailed electrical work take-offs, and coordinating project plans and specifications. You will be responsible for managing and coordinating people, software, and other resources to deliver projects within budget and timeframe.

Key Responsibilities
  • Estimating: Prepare electrical/civil work take-offs and estimates on utility projects, including costs of materials, labor, and equipment required for projects based on contract bids, quotations, schematic drawings, and specifications.
  • Team Management: Assign responsibilities for estimating teams, review project plans, and confirm complete scope.
  • Conceptual Budgets: Prepare conceptual budgets based on minimal information.
  • Project Coordination: Manage and coordinate people, software, and other resources for projects ranging from fully defined Bid-Build to conceptual Design- Build.
  • Alternative Means: Analyze alternative means and methods to determine the most economic alternative.
  • Risk Issues: Identify risk issues and their order of magnitude.
  • Proposal Requirements: Coordinate technical proposal requirements with Marketing Department.
  • Contractor Bids: Review and/or manage the review and scoping of specialty contractors' bids.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • 10+ years' estimating experience on utility construction projects.
  • Experience in underground/overhead utilities an asset.
  • Possess excellent communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with customers, design teams, contractors, suppliers, and user groups.
