Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Surety Bond Underwriter to join our team at Gallagher. As a key member of our Surety team, you will be responsible for underwriting surety bond applications, evaluating financial statements, and assessing risk to determine bond eligibility.

In this role, you will work closely with clients, brokers, and internal teams to gather vital information and documentation for bond issuance. You will also conduct detailed risk assessments to identify potential issues and mitigate risks associated with surety bonds.

As a Surety Bond Underwriter, you will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects, from underwriting surety bond applications to monitoring and managing existing surety bond portfolios. You will also stay up-to-date on industry trends, regulations, and best practices to provide valuable insights and recommendations to improve our business's surety bond operations.

We are looking for a highly motivated and organized individual with strong analytical and problem-solving skills. You should have experience in surety bond underwriting and risk assessment, as well as knowledge of surety bond regulations, industry standards, and best practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Underwrite surety bond applications by evaluating financial statements, credit reports, and other relevant documents
  • Evaluate and analyze contract documents to ensure compliance with established guidelines and regulations
  • Collaborate with clients, brokers, and internal teams to gather vital information and documentation for bond issuance
  • Conduct detailed risk assessments to identify potential issues and mitigate risks associated with surety bonds
  • Monitor and manage existing surety bond portfolios, including reviewing financial statements and assessing bond performance
  • Investigate and process surety bond claims, including reviewing claim documentation and negotiating settlements
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all surety bond transactions
  • Stay updated on industry trends, regulations, and best practices to provide valuable insights and recommendations

Requirements

  • Experience in surety bond underwriting and risk assessment
  • Strong knowledge of surety bond regulations, industry standards, and best practices
  • Good knowledge of markets and their policy wordings
  • Proficient in using computer software and applications, including MS Office Suite and surety bond management systems
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Outstanding attention to detail and accuracy in reviewing and analyzing surety bond applications and related documents
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Licensing in good standing
  • Pursuing or willingness to pursue relevant insurance certifications or education
