Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide Patient Care: Deliver nursing care in accordance with established policies, physician's orders, and the resident plan of care, within the scope of practice of an RN.
  • Assess and Plan Care: Utilize sound nursing practice principles to ensure the delivery of excellent nursing and personal care in the assigned home area(s).
  • Ensure Timely Admissions and Discharges: Ensure that resident transfers and discharges are timely and safe.
  • Manage Medications and Supplies: Ensure the supply, control, and safekeeping of drugs and narcotics, and ensure protocols are followed on all assigned shifts.
  • Provide Comprehensive Care: Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care to meet the physical, psychological, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and social needs of the residents.

Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor of Science – Nursing (BScN), Bachelor of Nursing (BN), or equivalent.
  • Registration and Certification: Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses and current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification.
  • Computer Proficiency: Basic computer proficiency.
  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Deals with others in an effective, compassionate, and supportive manner.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of the Long Term Care Act, Program Standards for Long Term Care, the appropriate sections of the Health Disciplines Act, Occupation Health and Safety Act, Pharmacy Act, Food and Drugs Act (Canada), Narcotic Control Act (Canada), Coroners Act, College of Nurses of Ontario Standards of Practice, and other pertinent Federal, Provincial, and Municipal Statutes.
  • Clearance and Certifications: Medical Clearance (including but not limited to TB tests), Vulnerable Sector Police Check and/or Adult Abuse Registry Check, and Clear Criminal Record check.
