What is the opportunity?

As a key member of the Royal Bank of Canada's Financial Control team, the Senior Financial Control Manager will provide expert accounting advisory services for new products, implement effective financial processes, and ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial information captured in RBC's results, with a primary focus on Business Financial Products (BFS) and Personal Financing Products (PFP).

Key Responsibilities

  • Accounting Advisory – Assess the accounting and financial statement implications of new initiatives to enable business partners to make informed decisions in accordance with IFRS and RBC's CAPM.
  • Financial Reporting – Review quarterly financial disclosures and related variance analysis, investigating abnormalities in the financial results.
  • Financial Infrastructure – Assess financial risk and establish proper controls, infrastructure, and processes to ensure financial results are reported completely and accurately, and risks are adequately managed.
  • Financial Control Environment – Perform administration and review of Standard of Documentation (SOD) and follow-up on queries to ensure timely resolution, perform, review, and update SOX controls.
  • Data Strategy and Projects – Assist with data strategy projects and ad-hoc initiatives to enhance the transparency and accuracy of the data.
  • Process Transformation – Assist in automation and streamlining of existing processes and implementation of new processes.
  • Ad-hoc Projects – Participate in ad-hoc projects as directed, including accounting policy implementation, rectifying SOX deficiencies, reviewing SOC1 reports, and new system implementation.

Requirements

  • CPA, CA, or equivalent accounting designation.
  • 4+ years of working experience, ideally with an audit firm or financial institution.
  • Strong IFRS working knowledge.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate and obtain buy-ins from multiple stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of retail banking products or willingness and interest in developing that knowledge.
  • Strong financial and analytical skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet multiple deliverables within a tight timeline.
  • Excellent presentation and report writing skills.
  • Strong team building skills and work ethic.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of RBC's financial systems.
