Job Summary:

The Mental Health Specialist will work with individuals with significant mental health needs, implementing and monitoring services to meet their needs. This role requires the ability to function independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, working cooperatively with multiple service providers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide high-quality assessment and brief counseling using short-term solution-focused and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy therapeutic models.
  • Participate in the education of staff, students, and the larger community.
  • Work in a Withdrawal Management Services setting, with the understanding that the Mental Health Specialist may be assigned to another program as needed.

Requirements:

  • Master's degree in Social Work and membership in the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW).
  • Master's degree in Nursing, Social Work, Psychology, or a related health or Social Science field, and current registration in good standing with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO).
  • Minimum 5 years recent experience working with individuals with significant mental health needs.
  • Knowledge and appreciation of Recovery Principles.
  • Excellent assessment and treatment skills utilizing modalities of individual and group therapies.
  • Knowledge of the Mental Health Act and familiarity with DSM-V.
  • Training and experience in Brief Solution-Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Single Session Therapy, Group therapy, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy.
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team setting, work all shifts, and maintain recent satisfactory performance and attendance records.
  • Adherence to Brightshores 'CARE' Behaviours and 'LEAD' Competencies, and a commitment to a safe workplace free of violence and harassment.
