Job SummaryWe are looking for a student who is passionate about aquatic safety and education to work as a lifeguard and swimming instructor at our public pools. As an Aquatic Lifeguard/Instructor Student, you will be responsible for supervising pool activities, teaching swimming lessons, and providing customer service to our patrons.
Responsibilities- Supervise pool activities and ensure the safety of patrons
- Teach swimming lessons to students of all ages and skill levels
- Provide customer service to patrons and respond to their needs
- Maintain a clean and safe pool environment
- Assist with special events and programs
- Some secondary school education, with six (6) months to two (2) years of related experience
- Knowledge of and experience with injury prevention practices, as well as health and safety practices
- Excellent customer service skills
- Interpersonal and communication skills, written and verbal
- Basic computer skills, specifically Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) (or similar software program)
- Previous lifeguard/aquatic experience working at a public pool or other environment
- Previous aquatic leadership/supervision experience
- Experience in dealing/working with community user demographics (preschool, youth, adult, senior)
- LSSC Swim Instructor certification
- Standard First Aid with CPR 'C' certification that meets WSIB regulations
- LSSC National Lifeguard – Pool or Red Cross Pool Lifeguard certification
This position works weekday, afternoon, evening and weekend hours.
COVID-19 VaccinationThe Municipality of Chatham-Kent no longer requires a COVID-19 vaccination as a condition of employment. Although it is not mandatory to be vaccinated, it is highly encouraged.
Background Check RequirementsSuccessful candidates will be required to complete a background check prior to commencement of employment. A background check may include the following: education/certification verification and employment reference check. Because of the environment this position will be working in, the successful candidate will be required to furnish an original Police Information Search (criminal reference check) (working with vulnerable persons) prior to commencement of employment.
Essential Physical and/or Safety Requirements- Physical NL standards or Red Cross Lifeguarding standards to be kept up through-out employment (wearing proper footwear and PPE)
- Completion of Health & Safety course
- Protecting self from the sun (sunscreen, hat and hydrating with water)
